NYC’s Best New Boutiques

A look back at 2012’s fashionable openings

best new boutiques!

Still searching for a New Year’s outfit or gift for your party hostess? Spend time (and dollars) at our favorite boutiques that opened this year.

A ballsy selection of indie designers and owner Phillip Salem’s insistence that every customer be treated like Beyoncé made Owen an instant go-to. Similarly indispensable in our rotation: Bowery standout Dagny + Barstow and sunny, surf-inspired Nolita gem Warm.

Break out of a rut with hard-to-find international lines at Williamsburg’s Gamine or work your way into a comfortable one with the cozy selection at LES one-liner The Hoodie Shop.

Brooklyn went digital this year with a trio of vintage online shops. Click on Maeven for quirky period pieces, Where I Was From for sleek minimalist designers, and NiftyThrifty for a refreshingly affordable and sprawling selection.

Handbag designer Khirma Eliazov opened her first space in a West Village townhouse, complete with furry mascot. In Williamsburg, jeweler Caitlin Mociun stocks ceramics and home goods made by talented buds, while indie darlings Species by the Thousands and Cold Picnic combined forces to open cushion- and leather jewelry-filled shop A Thousand Picnics.

That’s a wrap.
