Look sharp, troopers.
Directive: Proceed to dinner duty at The General, a massive Bowery restaurant opening tomorrow at 1730 hours.
Commanding Officers: Chef Hung Huynh (Catch) with EMM Group’s Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum.
Base Assignment: Snag a table in the front cafe (garage door window wall, exposed beam ceilings, buzzy) or back dining room (reflective crimson and gold wallpaper, Edison bulb fixtures, potential sensory overload). Spots surrounding the center bar/pastry station are also available.
Authorized Fare: Pull rank and mix sushi rolls (spicy tuna, salsa verde; spicy king crab, mango sauce, wasabi honey) and small plates (roasted duck salad, Philly pepper steak sticky buns); get your fill of dino-size braised short rib with Chinese broccoli atop udon.
Additional Duties: Try pastry chef Thiago Silva’s mind-altering coconut water sorbet (its shape mimics the fruit) with cake pyramids and candied tropical bits. Gather liquid courage at the attached watering holes: Bow, a subterranean bunker/live music lounge (reopens on Friday) and Finale, a blue velvet-roped back nook.
Over and out.
