App-y Day: Beck and Bo

Play scene director with your iPhone

beck and bo!

Fluffy McBear is great for snuggling, but he isn’t much of a conversationalist.

It’s time to introduce your little explorer to more stimulating friends — namely, Beck and Bo. The adventure-loving boy and girl are the main characters of an iPad and iPhone app designed to help toddlers and preschoolers with word association skills.

Choose from twelve illustrated scenes (ocean, backyard, city) and drag and drop items into their rightful places. As an item falls on the screen, its name or sound is announced. Each scene is like its own interactive fun zone; flowers can be watered, apples picked, and train wagons hitched.

When the whole picture is pieced together, kids get access to an album that shows off each object’s action, sound, and spelling.

That’ll give them something to talk about.

Available at itunes.apple.com, $2.
