At first, we blamed our crazed state on the never-ending wait for spring. Then our upstairs neighbor’s newfound love of bass-heavy jams (or squat jumps — we can’t tell).
Turns out we’re simply mad for Nolita-based hatter Alessandra Rivera.
For her custom and RTW creations, the Parsons grad draws from the works of Austrian painter Egon Schiele, her artistic-centric upbringing in Pennsylvania, and the ’20s. The result of such diversity: perforated leather bandeau turbans, fabric cocktail headbands, witchlike straw hats, and colored felt cordobes adorned with baubles from her worldly travels.
The milliner also moonlights as a freelance designer for Catherine Malandrino, Haute Hippie, and Alice + Olivia (to name a few), so the sky is the limit when it comes to made-to-order creations. Leather, fur, gold chains, and structure are all fair game.
Custom orders take three weeks, run $375-$900, and require a studio appointment, though we recommend the latter to try on ready-made pieces ($80-$325).
Feel free to go nuts.
