Tired of factory-like hair salons where the whine of a hundred blow-dryers drowns out your stylist’s gossip? Hit Sip ’n’ Snip, where, yes, baby, it’s all about you and owner Ricky Parnell.
Decorated like John Waters’s fantasy soda fountain/beauty parlor, the two-chair salon is a favorite secret among models, photographers, and little old ladies from the hood who come as much for the chit chat and sweets (free Coke and candy!) as they do for Parnell’s expert cuts for men and women. (He was Orlando Pita’s assistant for four years and worked on every major runway show and editorial shoot with pal Kevyn Aucoin.)
Since he’s his own boss, Parnell will open as early or as late as you need. On Tuesdays, Brad Johns’s assistant drops by to do color.
Did we mention the price?
Seventy-five dollars, Pixie Stix included.
(Afterward, donate your hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the U.S. suffering from long-term medical hair loss. )
