Camp Out with Campos

Start a long-term relationship with a new handbag

There are things that haven’t stood the test of time (Prohibition, perms).

Then there are Campos handbags, a just-launched collection of satchels, totes, and clutches destined to become classics.

The frustration of tracking down a locally sourced and crafted carryall prompted Hayden-Harnett creative director Toni Hacker to take matters into her own hands.

And someone else’s: To ensure quality in the construction, Hacker turned to leather craftsman Roy Campos, an industry vet who stitches accessories in his Brooklyn Navy Yard studio (past partners include Marc Jacobs and Rebecca Minkoff). Buttery leather and sturdy U.S.-made hardware round out their vision.

The line includes giftable pouches and double-zip clutches, cross-body satchels (the ideal travel companions), and totes roomy enough to house your livelihood. The nutmeg number with a red and a blue stripe (it can carry a laptop) tops our wish list.

Take ownership and customize (choose color combos, zipper tape, puller leather, panel, and strap hues) for a design that’s truly yours.

Forever ever.

Available at In God We Trust, 265 Lafayette Street, between Prince and Spring Streets (212-966-9010 or ingodtrustnyc.com); at camposbags.com, $68-$328.
