Plante a Fashionable Seed

You’ll dig this silky new clothing collection

Between chapped lips and flu germs, kissing (up) is the last thing on our mind.

But we’re not just paying lip service to Becky and Leah Plante, the sisters behind Plante, a new line of silk clothing made right here in NYC.

The siblings’ shared passion for fashion came early. Leah learned to sew as a kid, went on to study fiber science and apparel design at Cornell, and then worked for the likes of Vena Cava and Lacoste. Becky was a teenage thrifter who majored in multitasking: While at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, she launched online vintage shop BeckyPlantsTrees (currently on hiatus).

And now the two have put their talents together to debut a collection that is both whimsical and practical.

Expect perfectly pairable separates that work well in the modern-day enchanted forest of Manhattan. We’ll navigate spring garden parties in delicate cinched-waist shorts (in blush or black) and a soft cropped top embellished with silk-covered buttons. High-neck, light-as-a-feather tank tops (in bone or navy) with cutout backs look dreamy with jeans on a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. And the roomy overalls — a refined version of their denim predecessor (and our favorite piece) — are the answer for lounge sessions on the Hudson.

Go ahead — Plante one on us.

Available at Albertine, 13 Christopher Street, between Greenwich Avenue and Waverly Place (212-924-8515 or albertine.co); Thistle & Clover, 221 DeKalb Avenue, between Adelphi Street and Clermont Avenue, Fort Greene (718-855-5577 or thistleclover.com); at planteclothing.com, $198-$476.
