How to Do NYC on a Budget

Fun finds for $10 or less

nyc for $10 or less!

Living in NYC doesn’t come cheap. We scoured the Big Apple for finds that ring in at $10 or less.

1. Corner Bistro’s delicious, no-frills burger (just $9) is no secret — but Gotham West Market’s retro diner, Genuine Roadside, brings fierce competition with the super duper stack burger (double patties, American cheese, sweet pickles, special house sauce) for $10.

2. Warm up with a hearty bowl of French onion soup (topped by bagel-bread pudding croutons) for $9 from chef Amanda Freitag’s new neighborhood spot, Empire Diner.

3. Work off the calories during a high-intensity session (Monday and Wednesday, 11 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 p.m.) at The People’s Bootcamp. Don’t sweat the pay-what-you-can price.

4. Spare yourself hundreds on expensive face wash and head to Catbird for a bar of the famed Swedish egg white facial soap, which soothes skin with hints of chamomile flower oil and lecithin. For just $1, it’s a beauty routine you can afford.

5. Satisfy your sweet tooth at Williamsburg’s small-batch ice cream purveyor, OddFellows Ice Cream Co., where $5 gets you double scoops of additive- and hormone-free flavors like gingerbread, peanut butter and jelly, and raspberry pink peppercorn.

6. Invest $10 in a late-night laugh as the stars of Upright Citizens Brigade’s “Grandma’s Ashes: We Won’t Tell” spin your submitted secrets into a seriously comical improv show every Saturday night.

7. Few things make a hipster happier than a free festival. Join the fun on Friday and Saturday evenings at Greenpoint’s Brooklyn Night Bazaar, where independent vendors, chefs, and artists gather to the tune of live music.

8. Since when did the movies become a $20 ordeal? Head to Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill Cinemas to take in your favorite flicks (big names and indies) for an old-fashioned $8 every Tuesday and Thursday (and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until 5 p.m.)

9. Don’t let the three-story climb scare you away from shelling out just $9 for a picture-perfect manicure at Soho Nails.

10. The borough’s latest live music venue, Rough Trade NYC, hosts free shows by up-and-coming artists. We plan on catching Cities Aviv before he blows up.

Cha-ching.
