Holiday Gifts: The Kid Guide

Holiday Gift Guide for Kids

When shopping for kids, we rely on the classics. Games like Operation (we still touch the funnybone!) and Candy Land (of course). Shel Silverstein’s books, especially The Giving Tree. We’d love to play with snowman paint or a doughnut-making kit. But it’s been a while since we were 10, so we checked in with DailyCandy’s junior correspondent, Janey Miles Feingold. She reports:

“I looked at holiday catalogs, checked out my favorite Websites, and then hit the street with my friend Tess. Here’s what’s topping my wish list this season:

The biggest pink Penelope from FAO Schwarz…

One of my favorite stores, Marsha DD (1324 Lexington Avenue, at 89th Street, 212-534-8700; and 1324 Lexington Avenue, at 88th Street, 212-534-8700), is loaded with fabulous Paul Frank stuff. I loved the flannel pj’s and the bathrobe with matching hotel slippers. The charm bracelet was super special, too.

I’m a girl on the run, so I love the Roxy luggage on wheels.

I want the new Hello Kitty t-shirt with rhinestones!

Then I hit Kate’s Paperie (282 Third Avenue, at 73rd Street, 212-396-3670; and 561 Broadway, between Prince and Spring Streets, 212-941-9816), where I found fun diaries like the Good Dog Journal and the Fashion Journal. Fred Flare composition books are really eye-catching. Need something to write with? How about the Sensa pen? It’s special because it molds to your grip.

Uptown, E.A.T. Gifts (1062 Madison Ave, between 80th and 81st Streets; 212-861-2544) was an adventure in stocking stuffers like Smart House wind-up toys (great pastel colors!) and unusual Japanese food erasers. Their holiday headbands with trees, reindeer, and candy canes are so cute!

Remember, kids love candy most in their stockings, so don’t forget the Special Edition Nutcracker Pez.

Last but not least, my experiential present. Highly recommended for the kid who has everything — a gift certificate for singing lessons with Ellen Foley. Ellen, who is totally cool, sang with Meatloaf, and was one of the first VH1 veejays. She now gives singing lessons to kids aged 10 and up. What a fantasy come true!”

Ah, to be 10 again!
