A Short Story: A Bar Opens

Once upon time there was a massage parlor.

And this massage parlor was called Happy Ending. (Subtle, no?)

But, alas, the massage parlor closed. (Anyone dumb enough to name a place that, well…)

Some time later, two bar owners, Peter Kane and Oliver Pihlar, the folks behind Double Happiness and Wyanoka, spotted the joint and said, “Hey, let’s open a bar here. And let’s call it … Happy Ending!”

So out came the steam rooms, the hot tubs, the, um, bidet-like contraptions. In came a mix of Vegas modern (lime-green bar, brown velvet booths) and offbeat eroticism (a mirror of a woman riding a swan? old videos of men displaying not much more than a towel?).

And somehow, well, much as in a fairy tale, it worked. Outlandish? Yes. But indulge the fantasy — this bar rocks. Coolest place we’ve seen in ages.

Which, as far as weekends go, could make for a very good beginning.
