The starving artist act is so played out.
Painter Dana Kirkpatrick couldn’t agree more. But how does an artist think outside the frame if she wants the public to see her work? Epiphany: Those chicks walking around in plain white tees presented the ultimate gallery space.
That’s how Kirkpatrick’s darling images (flowy Matisse-like forms, Degas-like ballerinas) ended up on tank tops, baseball tees, and, more recently, adorable white canvas shoulder bags (L.L. Bean and Kate Spade — there’s a new kid in the sandbox).
Never one to lose sight of her ultimate goal, Kirkpatrick hasn’t forsaken the art world for fashion fabulosity: She’s going back for her M.F.A., thank you very much.
