It’s a film about two guys, a girl, and nine — count ’em — nine queens. No, not a kinky gay porno flick. (When will you people grow up?)
Rather, Nine Queens, which opens today, is a sexy new Argentine movie that tells the story of two small-time con artists angling to pull off the scam of a lifetime. The queens of the title refer to rare stamps that the guys hope to sell to a shady foreign businessman on the lam. As in any good cinematic shell game, you’re not sure who’s conning whom until the last frame.
It’s David Mamet meets Pedro Almodovar: taut plotting, colorful characters, lots of sex appeal. And did we mention the outrageously hot actors?
(Oh, like you’re so mature.)
