Do It Yourself Flip-Flops

Do It Yourself Flip-Flops

Is there a greater example of mankind’s ingenuity than the flip-flop?

Such simplicity! Since prehistoric times, from Ghana to Kyoto to Nantucket, the excellent sandal has, in one form or another, been a favorite.

Of course, there’s always room for improvement. Why not transform that cheap pair you got at Old Navy into a limited-edition rendition? It’s fun, it’s easy, and it’s the only way to guarantee against those irritating “oh, look, we’re wearing the same shoes” moments.

We used an old pair we’d stashed away and spent about $1.50 on crystal tattoos and Krazy Glue. (Careful! Skin really does bond instantly!) Go nuts with buttons, beads, sequins, nail polish, stickers… A final tip: Use tweezers to position smaller items like rhinestones.

Glue, let dry, and slip on. And smile graciously when the compliments roll in.

Available at your local drugstore, supermarket, Target, J. Crew, Old Navy, the back of your closet… If you need more information than that, you should consider scrapping the plan altogether.
