Look! On the screen! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…
Nope, not Spider-Man. It’s Cherish, a welcome reprieve from the jump cuts and digitally enhanced pod launchers of the summer movie season. It’s a genre bending love story wrapped in a coming-of-age thriller, with stalkers, inmates, and campy kicks. Robin Tunney stars as Zoe, the insecure girl in the office who just wants a boyfriend and a better job. (Sound familiar?) After an unfortunate drunken accident, she finds herself under house arrest until the trial. Her mission? Find the mystery man who got her into trouble — without leaving the living room.
Jason Priestly plays the cheesy ’90s stud; indie rocker Liz Phair, in her first acting role, nails the blonde office bitch. As for Robin Tunney, well, she’s not at all what you’d expect from Miss Hollywood Blockbuster. And the soundtrack! You’ll be imeshing in overdrive, downloading classics from the Turtles to the Cure.
You gotta love a movie that aims higher than Spidey can climb.
Cherish opens today in New York and Los Angeles. Tickets are available
online at moviefone.com.
