Strut Your Glut

The Chocolate Show

Remember the day after Halloween 1980? A refresher: a Hansel and Gretel trail of wrappers leading to your room, where you lie curled up in a ball on the floor, moaning, one bite away from being rolled off by a team of Oompa-Loompas.

Good news: The adult version exists. Only now the gluttony is wrapped in the protective cloak of delicacy and epicurean appreciation.

The Chocolate Show is coming to town! The closest you’re ever going to get to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory in your lifetime, this weekend’s event features 30,000 square feet of chocolate (you’ll smell it a block away), many bakers, dozens of generous exhibitors (samples! samples! samples!), children’s activities, and demos by New York’s best chocolate masters (Jacques Torres, Francois Payard, Claudia Fleming). And if that isn’t enough, there will even be chocolate sculptures and clothing.

Don’t worry about feeling piggish. You’re refining your palate here.

Besides, 100,000 fellow chocolate addicts make for an ideal support group. Chocoholics Anonymous, anyone?

The Chocolate Show runs November 15 through 17 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. For more info, visit chocolateshow.com.
