The Glass Menagerie

Jane D'Arensbourg's Pyrex Jewelry

It was designed for scientific use, as glass that could resist the heat of the Bunsen burner.

It quickly became a kitchen staple — the perfect utensil for baking and microwaving. The Pink Pussycat crowd found the material useful for putting in areas that … Well, you can go there, but we won’t.

Now artist and designer Jane D’Arensbourg is transforming humble and versatile Pyrex into jewelry. Her surprisingly beautiful rings, necklaces, and earrings are the minimalist way to wear big, fun designs. Pieces are available in clear or translucent bright colors and look like they belong in a museum.

But don’t let the fragile look fool you. Pyrex is built to last. And remember: This Pyrex is for external use only.

Available at Auto, 805 Washington Street, between Gansevoort and Horatio Streets (212-229-2292); or online at thisisauto.com (under Holiday Shopping Guide). To view styles, go to janedarensbourg.com.
