On a Shoestring

Every chick’s dream: having the perfect shoes for every outfit. The average chick’s reality: having one decent pair that goes with a lot of her stuff.

Unless she knows about Suzette Sundae, a new shop in the East Village that sells the most comprehensive selection of vintage shoes you’ve ever seen. The tiny 1,000-square-foot boutique is a gold mine for stilettos and wedges dating from the ’50s to the ’80s, available in countless hues (white, beige, red, black, gold, silver, pink, baby blue, purple) and arranged in meticulous display. As for the pickings, they’re the height of fashion and in mint condition, thanks to the buying habits of owner Susie Sundae, who’s drawn to look rather than label. The kicker? They’re affordable enough to put that shoe-for-every-outfit dream within reach.

And that’s the sort of reality we could all use a dose of.

Suzette Sundae, 182 Avenue B, between 11th and 12th Streets (212-777-7870).
