Blue Note

By luck, chance, or sheer will, some people view the world through rose-colored lenses.

Especially if they’re gorgeous, talented, and happen to be married to one of the country’s best actors, with whom they have a picture-perfect family.

But the outlook for Phoebe Cates Kline is now decidedly azure with the opening of Blue Tree, the newly minted boutique emporium on the Upper East Side that she owns with partner Lisa Matlin. The pretty, bi-level shop is chockful of gifts, gadgets, clothing, and accessories for you, your friends, neighbors, family, or co-workers.

Take your time scanning the colorful shelves and impressive display of goods, and make a mental checklist of things to return for: a John Malkovich kimono, Emma Hope sock boots, and a Mina Poe crocheted cashmere coat. (Not to mention Jacques Torres chocolates, mini Shakespeare collections, and Salvor animal pillows).

You might even want to take note of the 8:30 a.m. opening time, in case you ever need a quick pick-me-up (Good morning, Fred Leighton!) before work.

It could be just the thing to have you happily whistling the blues.

Blue Tree, 1283 Madison Avenue, between 91st and 92nd Streets (212-369-2583).
