Pretend for a moment that you’re living in the age of the courtier.

Instead of spending time with your PowerBook, you’re perfecting your curtsey and being played (like a pawn) in your family’s ambitious plots for the crown.

You’re probably involved in a secret scandal with an aristocrat of lesser political significance than yourself. You exchange handkerchiefs and poems written in iambic pentameter. He pledges to die for your love. You figure you could at least get him one of those photos he’s been asking for.
