The Inn Crowd

A newsflash, it’s not: Ye Waverly Inn, the historic Village classic, has undergone a transformation with all the subtlety of a Vanity Fair Oscar party.

No wonder. Because (as you know) its new owners include VF editor-in-chief Graydon Carter and Eric Goode and Sean MacPherson (the epic food and club duo of Maritime Hotel and The Park fame).

Carter (who knows a thing or two about a good edit) was smart enough to leave the historic design alone. The booths in the dining room are cushy and publicly private. You’ll eat, drink, and stargaze in good company. (We expect Brad Pitt didn’t accept the friends and family invite.)

The standard American fare is simple and inconspicuous. Amish organic chicken with foraged mushrooms is the best thing we tried.

But it’s not only about the food. It’s about the carefully curated scene. To that end, they’re not officially open until the end of the month and would rather you wait till then. (Rumor had it their number was unlisted, but they totally gave it to us.)

Locals are welcome to drop in, so pretend you live around the corner.

But you might want Keith McNally as your plus one, just in case.
