White Noise

White Forest Pottery

Some of us have a tendency to ignore Mother Nature (can’t blame her for her outbursts).

But ceramic artist Nancy Bauch is taking careful notes in the form of White Forest Pottery, a collection of woven rocks, hand-pinched bells, rippling plates, and nesting bowls that look — at bird’s-eye view — just like rose petals.

Bauch takes time to notice details: the curve of a snowdrift, the vein in a leaf — the perfections that make something rare and distinctive.

Her porcelain pieces are delicate, soothing, and somehow quieting when cradled in the palm of your hand. Which is why, on these cold and blustery days, we’re particularly fond of her slip-cast cocoa mugs. The small cups with smooth curves and a satin finish evoke a simple, natural beauty.

But you know whom to give the real credit to.
