NEW YORK — Little Black Dress passed away November 2007. She was found crumpled in the back of the closet, unresponsive to this season’s oversize waistline and accoutrements.
She is survived by her avant-garde sisters, the Big Black Dresses of Requiem, a Parisian atelier influenced by the refined cocktail dresses of the ’40s and ’50s and the designers’ collective experience at Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Costume National, and Sonia Rykiel.
These girls are monumental — with leviathan ruffles, Goliath bows, mighty pleats, bright green splashes, walloping sleeves, and a meticulous attention to detail and fabrication.
Their couture personalities and everlasting youthfulness will hopefully help them escape the fate of their little sister.
