Yeah, yeah: We know it’s not the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean.
Still, a shorty remains a hard sell.
Unless it’s in reference to Lauren Groff’s incredible new (and very satisfying) book of short stories, Delicate Edible Birds.
Groff gives us an array of irresistible characters and scenarios spanning the last century: May-December lovers united by poetry and swimming during a flu epidemic, a troubled teenager who finds confidence by throwing batons, and a woman whose lust for an Argentine playboy lasts a lifetime.
Some of the tales are real tearjerkers (in a good way, a la Beaches) but also relatable and oh so well written. Plus, Groff draws you in at lightning speed — so you won’t be able to let go.
Unlike with other things in small packages.
