Here’s the story.
Of a lovely Leyla.
Who is opening a restaurant tonight.
Former fashion publicist Leyla Marchetto’s Scuderia is across the street from her father’s legendary Da Silvano. We stopped in to chat.
Which is crazier: fashion or food?
Food. I like the immediate results. You’re not planning next season. You do it; you get rewards. I don’t go shopping anymore.
What have you been eating?
Pizzas: egg, spinach, and pancetta; bianco al pesto. Grilled cheese with speck. Rice balls with beef ragu. All I eat are carbs.
How is it working with your dad and Italian partners?
I write 120 e-mails per day. The Italians read one per week.
What’s the difference between Scuderia and Da Silvano?
We’re younger, simpler, more affordable. We’re not expecting corporate accounts — and J-Lo is not going to sit on those orange stools.
What’s your favorite record on the wall?
The Rolling Stones’s Miss You. My dad learned English from the Stones. That’s why he curses so much.
