Because, Because, Because

Falling Whistles Fund-Raising Project

A man keeps a blog, goes to sleep, and wakes up with a new view of the world.

We’re not in the U.S. anymore.

After discovering an illegal prison for children in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, Sean Carasso was told that boys too small to carry a gun are often forced to the front lines, armed with only a whistle (to scare the enemy and receive the first round of bullets).

Moved by their stories, Carasso worked with UNICEF to liberate the young boys he met.

The nonprofit organization that came out of it, Falling Whistles, sells simple whistle-blower charms to tell the story, finance charity initiatives, and help affected children in the Congo escape to freedom.

Two thousand whistles have been sold so far (100 percent goes to the cause), but there’s still a long road ahead.

Before reaching that place somewhere over the rainbow.

Available at Steven Alan Annex, 103 Franklin Street, between Church Street and West Broadway (212-343-0692); online at fallingwhistles.com.
