You know that part in the movie when the shy girl — the one with flawless skin and perfect teeth — lets down her hair or takes off her glasses? Suddenly, it’s like: Whoa, she’s smokin’.
That’s how it is for us with Saipua. The sweet Red Hook flower and sundries shop we admired from afar officially reveals its new incarnation tomorrow.
And, man, is she gorgeous.
Moving off the Van Brunt stretch for a road less traveled, the new boutique looks like a delicious little sake box, with 700 square feet of floor-to-ceiling weathered wooden slats and foliage spilling over. Architect Jeremy Barbour of Tacklebox carved out cubbyholes for still lifes with extraordinary flowers, antiques, and the shop’s handmade olive oil soaps (not to be missed).
And that’s just the trailer. (No spoilers here.)
Saipua, 147 Van Dyke Street, between Conover and Van Brunt Streets, Red Hook (718-624-2929 or saipua.com).
