Dear Culinary Trendsetters,
We’ve had enough. The unrelenting banh mi invasion. Sickly sweet fro yo wars. And, of course, the infamous Pork Parade of ’09.
But college pals turned business partners Josh Morgan and Robert Werhane (past projects: Dell’anima, L’Artusi) know what floats our boat: Today they open Choptank, an unpretentious seafood spot named for the Maryland river near where the lads grew up, featuring chef Matthew Schaefer’s (Le Bernardin, The Mermaid Inn) affordable aquatic-centric fare.
We’ll be getting handsy with peel ’n’ eat shrimp, fried chicken with black pepper honey and cabbage slaw, and pan-roasted striped bass with thick chips and malt vinegar.
Come find us at one of the bars (full raw or regular) or on the patio out back with pitchers of craft beer and bushels of blue crabs — in summer, that is. We’ll describe our fad-dodging good time on a postcard and tack it to the cork wall.
Until we eat again,
The Hungry Masses
Choptank, 308-310 Bleecker Street, at Grove Street (212-675-2009).
The ’Tank is holding one two-top and one four-top for DailyCandy readers each night this week. Those lucky diners might get a little something extra (like a round of oysters) on the house.
