Cartoon character tats work for Marc Jacobs and thirtysomething Wonder Wheel operators, but SpongeBob isn’t part of your body art plan.
We’ve got an inkling that artist Amanda Wachob will be. For the past twelve years, she has been leaving her indelible mark on NYC through a painterly style of tattooing that, at times, perfectly mimics brushstrokes.
Wachob likes penny slot machines, chocolate cigarettes, and sticking her gum under the table, but she’ll work with you to achieve whatever you like and render it permanent — from a faceted diamond on a ring finger or a mariachi band on a shoulder to colorful Rothko-esque abstracts.
Catch her at Fun City and Daredevil, where she’ll expertly ink you with splotches and splashes ($300 per hour) that seem real enough to wash off with soap and water.
Get a walk-in consultation with Wachob, Sunday, noon-12:30 p.m., at Daredevil Tattoo, 174 Ludlow Street, between Houston and Stanton Streets (212-533-8303 or daredeviltattoo.com); Thursday, noon-12:30 p.m., at Fun City Tattoo, 94 Saint Marks Place, between First Avenue and Avenue A (212-353-8282 or funcitytattoo.com).
