“Not everyone wants to be treated like a princess,” says Lanie List.
But every potential bride wants something special — and Lovely, her new bridal boutique in a quiet West Village townhouse, will soothe even the most skittish fiancée.
More indie boutique than stuffy white dress shop, Lovely has calming robin’s egg blue walls with heart-shaped collages constructed out of pages from vintage French journals, a chalkboard bearing personalized welcome messages for brides, and Ban.do’s delightful headpieces and costume jewelry ($50-$350) perched on wall-mounted apple crates.
List will helpfully hover or just leave you be with mercifully priced dresses ($500-$5,000) and private salons decorated with mismatched chairs, giant mirrors, and velvet curtains. In-house tailor Sam Walls takes note of any required nips and tucks, and — should you not find what you want — can create bespoke dresses, starting at $3,500.
All this choice giving you bridal burnout? Refresh while reading List’s tip-saturated bridal blog for inspiration or collapse in the back garden (where she plans to host classes on topics like baking your own wedding cupcakes). After a cool glass of house-made lemonade, you’ll feel ready to take on anything, even the caterers.
Lovely opens tomorrow at 313 West Fourth Street, between Bank and West 12th Streets (212-924-2050 or lovelybride.com).
