New York's Coziest Fireplace Bars and Lounges

From Our Hearths to Yours

greenwich hotel drawing room!

Like a moth to a flame, so we are drawn to these hearths.

The Greenwich Hotel Drawing Room
Named for the Fantasia illustrations decorating the room, the guest den has couches and armchairs so comfy we suspect they were snagged from someone’s very fashionable grandma. The big draw: Locanda Verde’s full menu (and expansive Italian wine list) is available sans reservation.

Black Mountain Winehouse
Split timbers outside the door are a good sign, and this cabin-like restaurant’s woodpile is always stocked. Apart from the blaze, a global wine selection (France, Greece, Cali, Chile) and six-dish, cheese-centric menu on Tuesdays will keep you warm.

Union Hall
Visit this Park Slope haunt on weeknights to avoid lines for the bocce courts. Indie music and tap beers modernize the weathered old-money decor; antiques, taxidermy, and leather-back volumes are arranged around two roaring hearths.

The Campbell Apartment
In a place that’s all about movement (Grand Central), this romanticized version of the Depression era seems to have resisted transition. Gatsby-esque cocktails are served with a wink and finger foods by the grand stone fireplace.

Hudson Hotel Library
Size matters. So does anything that evokes Beauty and the Beast. Which is why we give the rows of books, XL fireplace, purple billiards table, and strong cocktails here our stamp of approval.
