South Williamsburg

In a perfect world, Hasidic, Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Italian people would all ride the JMZ together in peace. Ah, but they do — on the south side of Williamsburg, a gritty enclave urban romantics crave. Adventurers will discover charming eateries, coffee shops, bars, and bookstores in unexpected places. Speaking of, do not judge this book by its cover.

An unexpected location (a barren block under the J train) makes this bar feel like a secret party. The scene: cool and arty hipsters (just don’t call them that to their faces).

Marlow & Sons

Marlow & Sons

81 Broadway 718-384-1441

Gourmet bodega in the front is jam-packed with offbeat pantry items. Battered-enough saloon-like dining room is made for lingering over an insanely good caramel sea salt tart. Makes other seasonally focused eateries jealous as hell.

I can't believe you missed the absolutely best store for great priced designer kids clothing on the south side of williamsburg (brooklyn). The name is Natan Borlam and it's on Havemeyer st near south 2 street. The store decor is a total throwback (they've been there forever) but the clothing is amazing.
