Never upon a Time

“Postcards,” Edited by Jason Rodriguez

hey, mr. postman!

A tic-tac-toe bandit on the loose and winning. A forbidden lesbian romance circa 1917. A stepsister’s selfish blackmailing scheme.

Just a few of the ramblings found on old postcards.

But we want to know the rest of the story.

Editor Jason Rodriguez did, too, so he dug around antique stores, thrift shops, and flea markets across the country for vintage postcards and eerie illustrations that hinted at stories long forgotten, never told, or nonexistent.

Then he recruited top comic talents (like legends Harvey Pekar and Phillip Hester and gifted newcomers Michael Gaydos and Tom Beland) to add their two cents to those faded one-cent mailers.

The result is the graphic novel anthology Postcards: True Stories That Never Happened, a collection of varied “memories” — short glimpses into imagined lives of the past, when people actually picked up pens and wrote sentences in longhand.

Imagine that.
