Along the roads less traveled and too trammeled, we’ve picked up a few tips about what to take with you. Herewith, postcards from the baggage carousel.

Hi, Aunt Coco. People who hit the road with nothing but underwear and a toothbrush are baffling. Bad enough not sleeping in your own bed. Why would you leave your creature comforts behind? Especially when you can lug them in Tara Boone’s weekender, with matching makeup case and handbag. (You taught me so well.)

No such thing as packing light

Went looking for dream bag: a five-pound, 22-inch rolly (the largest allowable overhead size). Found zilch: It doesn’t exist. The good ones (like Tumi’s darling new Signature) weigh at least ten pounds. May just sacrifice quality for lightness, get a cheapie — and never let the baggage handlers touch it.

Smoke. Smog. That funky smell coming from the next room. How could anyone leave home without a travel candle?

Flight attendants hand out (awful) paper pillows. But on trains, buses, and rickshaws? It’s just you and your stiff neck. A microbead pillow (so cute in orange) will save your head (and lower back).
