Your last encounter with clay and yarn backfired in the arts and crafts cabin.
Let Julianne Ahn do your handiwork: She wraps, knots, and dyes humble materials into sophisticated Object & Totem jewelry. Her laborious techniques are unmatched. (During Hurricane Irene, she was dipping fibers in indigo while the rest of us scurried around for bottled water.)
In Ahn’s care, twine morphs into fluffy tassels, and a wood-beaded seat cushion becomes a necklace that Joni Mitchell would have drooled over. Pieces made with bright stripes of embroidery floss fondly remind us of friendship bracelets.
We’re most smitten with beads thrown on a pottery wheel and glazed in earthy colors.
Now you know why we’re in her camp.
