Time to Eat

Days will start getting shorter. Leaves will start falling. And you’ll be retrieving spare tire-camouflaging clothes (sweaters, jackets, ponchos) out of storage.

In the spirit of the coming season, here’s a timely excuse to eat: new menus around town that have our appetite in high gear.

Crescent City (600 South 9th Street; 215-627-6780) starts its new brunch menu this weekend with bananas Foster pancakes, huevos rancheros, and vegetable frittata.

Get your salad in a sandwich at Talk of the Town (3020 South Broad Street; 215-551-7277), where the new veggie sub comes piled high with long hots, broccoli rabe, and spinach.

Make sure to bring your bib and handy wipes to London Grill (2301 Fairmount Avenue; 215-978-4545). The New England lobster dinner with corn on the cob and potatoes will make you forget you didn’t summer on the coast of Maine.

For budget fancy, head to the beautiful Nineteen (200 South Broad Street; 215-790-1919) at the Park Hyatt, where the light, seasonal three-course prix fixe (roasted baby beets, steamed clams, coconut tapioca) costs only $35.

One bite of tahini Rice Crispy treats with black and white sesame seeds at Reading Terminal’s Flying Monkey Patisserie (51 North 12th Street; 215-928-0340) and you’ll be hooked.

And, finally, the new ginger-infused caramels topped with pink Hawaiian sea salt at West Chester’s Eclat Chocolates (24 South High Street; 610-692-5206) have arrived not a moment too soon.

Need another excuse? Time away from your kitchen always brings good tidings.

No matter what the season.
