Artistic License

When you think of art auctions, you think of boring old stiffs, million dollar carpets, and the Sotheby’s scandal.

Basically, you’d rather be hit with a bidding paddle than sit through that process.

Not tonight. Space 1026 is holding its annual art auction with original works donated by local artists, and it’ll be anything but dull.

Preview or bid on works in the silent auction or participate out loud (with auctioneer Todd Kimmel, who claims a “jawbone connected to the ham bone”). Envelope-pushing works from renowned area artists like Jim Houser, Elizabeth Huey, and Eric White will be on the block cheap; proceeds help keep Space 1026 afloat.

Feeling cash poor? The event coincides with the International Flipbook Festival — a touring show for the appreciation of hand-powered cinema.

Think of it as a benefit without all the unexciting conversation and pretentious suited types.

Which is an art form in itself.

Auction starts at 6:30 p.m. Space 1026, 1026 Arch Street, second floor (215-574-7630 or space1026.com).
