Fatal Attraction

Finger Magic Origami Bijou

wearable origami!

Obsession. While it usually makes you think of coming home to find your bunny in a pressure cooker, it can be a good thing.

Case in point? Cindy Ng. The Hayward, California, designer took her love for origami one step further and created a collection of folded silver jewelry called Origami Bijou (we also like the name a lot).

The delicate sterling cranes, turtles, and frogs all start out as a piece of precious metal clay. Ng folds the vinyl-like substance into the desired shape, then fires it in a kiln where the clay evaporates and the silver origami is revealed.

Afterward, she collects all her little creations and attaches them to sterling silver chains or strands of natural pearls. She uses traditional, meaningful forms in her jewelry, like the turtle for wisdom and the crane for longevity. She even has bunnies.

But that’s still a little too close to home.
