There is a place for you. A mythical paradise, where no one wears big labels or owns any greatest hits albums. Where the slip-ons are never new and the streets are paved with shiny, acrylic jewelry.
A place called … Brookadelphia.
Okay, so it doesn’t really exist. But that last part does — in the form of Brookadelphia necklaces. The new laser-cut line with a conscience is named for Brooklyn and Philadelphia, the cities in which it’s based, and reflects all the (seemingly) effortless cool of the regions’ best denizens.
There’s a line of reimagined nameplates (with words like postmodern and radish) that speaks more to your taste than a plain gold name tag, but we like the ones with a message: The Save the Bees necklace raises awareness about the decolonization of bees, while the No Bombs one is pretty self explanatory.
Clearly, the designers aren’t afraid to imagine a better world.
Whether that world involves bleached rattails is still up for debate.
Available at Topstitch, 311 Market Street, second floor (267-322-4057); Conspiracy Showroom, 910 North Second Street (215-925-2153). To see styles, go to brookadelphia.com.
