Union Gourmet Market & Cafe Opens

If you work around Washington Square West, you’ve probably been skipping lunch.

Perhaps it’s the dearth of establishments that sell food you want to eat.

No more. Today marks the opening of Union Gourmet. Owned and operated by Theresa and Felix Maietta (The Down Town Club), Union prepares fresh grub that you can enjoy at in- and outdoor cafe-style seating — or at your desk.

Let your taste buds take these for a spin: grilled salmon BLT, crab and artichoke dip, or the frittata platter (meat or vegetarian, served with house-made ketchup and salsa). Baked goods are also made on-site, and the coffee easily beats the Starbucks down the street in taste and price.

Looks like someone’s hungry for lunch again.
