Memphis Taproom Opens

When certain local bars raised the price of certain local beers, it became as clear as Michelob that Port Richmond needed a new watering hole.

Competition has arrived with the opening of the Memphis Taproom. Former Nodding Head Brewery manager Brendan Hartranft teamed up with Paula Decker and Ken Correll of Shackamaxon Catering to refurbish the historic Walt’s bar at the corner of Memphis and Cumberland.

Chef Jesse Kimball (Matyson) has created a “neighborhood kitchen” menu that blends inspiration from the Polish hood and his own punk-rock approach to high-end eats. Share a Port Richmond Platter of grilled kielbasa, pierogies, and potato pancakes, or spare the critters with a vegan club of avocado, lettuce, and tomato.

Beer is the thing here — Belgian, Brit, and American craft brews make the scene in bottles and on tap. Hops haters have wine options and a full bar to choose from. The best news of all? For now every single draft beer is just $4.

Putting an end to the brewhaha.
