Reap What You Sew
Katie Henry’s Sewn Drawings

Accidents happen. And they totally suck.
Katie Henry’s sewn drawings are a different story. They started accidentally, but we’re oh so very happy about them.
When wrist problems prevented the local artist from doing embroidery, she tried sewing drawings to fabric she stretches over canvas. (It’s a complicated process. Look at the picture.) The results were amazing.
She takes things like children, animals, and stiff subjects in old portraiture and adds animal heads to create whimsical, creepy-in-a-good-way artwork. The pieces are so detailed that people often mistake them for scanned work from a computer.
As if Photoshop could be this clever.
