Stephen Starr has done it again. And “it” is pretty big.
He gave Striped Bass a face-lift and reopens it today as Butcher and Singer, a steakhouse with an Old Hollywood vibe.
Hide in oxblood leather banquettes and marvel at the soaring ceiling, the pinkish marble columns, and floor-to-ceiling windows. The magnitude of the place is a sight in itself, and the fact that it doesn’t make you feel like a peanut is a design team accomplishment.
Chef Shane Cash’s menu includes classics like lobster Newberg with caviar and sherry sauce, Delmonico steak, and chilled asparagus salad. Bring back the power lunch with the Cobb salad, lobster club, and Waldorf chicken salad — and make it legit with a few sidecars or martinis.
Don’t be surprised if your cube feels claustrophobic upon your return.
Butcher and Singer, 1500 Walnut Street (215-732-4444).
