You’ll need to travel down a grungy stretch of street to locate The Ranstead Room’s discreetly marked door, but once inside, you’ll see the speakeasy-inspired space is completely posh. Fancy cocktails with hand-chipped ice instantly start conversation. Plus, we’re sure the dim lights and plush booths have encouraged an impromptu make-out session or two.

Mellow Mood
For a low-key evening, stumble into South Philly gem Chick’s Cafe & Wine Bar. Personable bartenders shake delicious, seasonal concoctions, and an absence of blaring music means you can ask all those cliche first-date questions (um, what’s your favorite band?) without having to shout.

For a French Kiss
If you can’t decide between dinner and a movie, kill two birds with one stone at Bistrot la Minette. Sup on French delicacies (greasy popcorn hands are so overrated) while watching films in the leafy courtyard through October. Definitely make a reservation, since tables at the intimate cafe fill up fast.

Appetite for Amor
Show off your command of romance languages with a trip to Tinto. Fill up on small plates at Jose Garces’s Spanish-style tapas joint and order a glass of wine from the well-curated list to eradicate your jitters.
