You dream of traveling to the Taj Mahal. But that pesky day job always gets in the way.
Get a taste of India with the Lotus Abhyanga body treatment.
When you book your appointment, ayurvedic practitioner Lilavati asks about your health concerns and time of birth. (Hint: Ask Mom.) She then uses the info to tailor your experience, from the cup of tea you’re greeted with to the perfume she blends on the spot.
The 80 minutes of bliss start with an invigorating scalp rub that puts your favorite shampoo girl to shame. Next, Lilavati drizzles warm oil over your body and massages it in with rhythmic strokes, releasing tension and anointing chakra centers. A thorough facial cleanse and hot compresses cap off the luxe service.
Some overbooked spas may hustle you out, but we were encouraged to take our sweet time, grazing on a seasonal ayurvedic snack (cooked apples). We left loose and centered — without a hint of jet lag.
Available at Temple of the Lotus, 1527 South Street, second floor (215-605-3415 or templeofthelotus.com), $120-$125.
