Make Soda Bread, Scones, and More

Tonight is your lucky night.

No, it’s not time to set your alarm for the Wedding of the Millennium (yet). But it is time to learn the tricks of Irish baking from Claire Keane of Clairesquares and Gemma Stafford of Rise and Dine SF.

The class, this evening at 6:30 p.m., kicks off with a Kerrygold cheese and butter tasting and a complimentary Irish coffee. Then Keane and Stafford will lead you through the basics of making Irish soda bread, brandy butter, shortbread, and proper raisin scones (puffed up and flaky, not the flattened, rock-hard numbers you’d find at the grocery store).

Keane suggests serving the scones with strawberries and clotted cream. They just might be the perfect accompaniment to Friday’s early, early morning festivities.

English eyes will be smiling.
