Overheard at a Mission Watering Hole
Friend 1: Be right back. I’m going to get a slice.
Friend 2: I could go for some pizza.
F1: Not that kind of slice. I’m craving dessert, so I’m hoping to catch Sunde White of Pie Fridays.
F2: A pie lady?
F1: Yeah, she used to sell her confections at the Rite Spot. These days she sets up a bright red cart at the corner of Valencia and 18th every Friday and Saturday at 5 p.m. and sells slices of her homemade pies until they run out.
F2: What kind are you going to get?
F1: She mixes it up every week. This weekend, she might have dark chocolate raspberry or strawberry rhubarb, and she’s done flavors like lemon custard, double-chocolate pumpkin, and mixed berry tangelo in the past.
F2: I’m coming with you.
F1: Sweet.
Pie Fridays, 19th Street, at Valencia Street, Fridays and Saturdays, 5 to 11 p.m. or until pies sell out. For flavors and special orders, go to piefridays.com.
