You’ve studied the lineup for weeks, but this weekend the bands descend on Golden Gate Park.
The main stage has the big names, but SF tastemakers will be heading to the side stages for lesser-known local and indie artists. Here are the top acts they’ll be tuning into this weekend.
Patrick Brown (producer, engineer, owner, Different Fur Studios) on K.Flay: “She’s like that girl you had a crush on in junior high, if that girl learned to rap and was way smarter than you (she graduated from Stanford). You’re jealous of her skill, but you can’t help but get totally hooked on her music.” Friday, 12:45 p.m., at Twin Peaks.
Jennifer Bennett (designer and owner, Jendarling Bags) on Foster the People: “I’m still listening to Pumped Up Kicks like I just heard it for the first time. I love their sound — very Empire of the Sun-esque and uplifting.” Friday, 3:40 p.m., at Sutro.
Anne Sage (blogger, The City Sage, and co-founder/executive editor, Rue Magazine) on Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers: “One of the SF music scene’s best-kept secrets, Nicki has a voice like melting honey and a sweet smile to match. Catch her before she blows up.” Saturday, 12:05 p.m., at Sutro.
Chris Fox (resident DJ at Bootie) on Greyboy Allstars: “These guys pushed funk to the next level. Each member is a true virtuoso of his instrument, taking you down long, jazzy roads during extended solos.” Saturday, 1:45 p.m., at Lands End.
Ty White (creative technical officer at Yourstru.ly) on Tune-Yards: “I see them every chance I get, including several secret shows they threw in Oakland. They have the best live show going, packed with raw energy and boundless personality.” Sunday, 1:15 p.m., at Sutro.
Kat Yeh (co-founder, StyleKouncil) on Wye Oak: “I can’t get their single, ‘Civilian,’ out of my head. I love Jenn Wasner’s raspy and haunting vocals paired with their stripped-down electric guitar, keyboards, and drums.” Sunday, 5:30 p.m., at Panhandle.
Outside Lands, Friday through Sunday, at Golden Gate Park. Enter at 25th Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, or 30th Avenue and Fulton Street. Tickets ($185 and up) available online at ticketmaster.com. Find the full schedule online here.
