Biergarten Opens

Guten Tag to Suppenkuche's Alfresco Sister

Patience is a virtue.

We’ve waited, and the time to rejoice is nigh: Behold Biergarten, Suppenküche’s Deutsch oasis for beer and brats (among other things), opens today in Hayes Valley’s Proxy project.

By now, you’re familiar with the wonders those unassuming shipping containers house. But the scene on lot L ups the ante with a quad of containers encircling a day-drinking paradise. The alfresco restaurant seats 99 (100 would be overkill) at wooden tables and benches, with a redbud tree at its center and trellised apple trees along the perimeter.

Say guten Tag to traditional biergarten fare: pretzel knot sandwiches, potato or beet salad, and beer-poached bratwurst. Six brews on tap (they’ll rotate regularly), plus a bottled option (potential specialties not available at Suppenküche), create a veritable wunderland of German drinking choices.

Rotisserie chicken is in the works.

Willkommen to the neighborhood.
