West of Pecos opens on Valencia

The Mission's new Southwestern saloon

west of pecos!

Our family road trips inevitably ended with someone getting left on the side of the highway in her underwear.

The MacNiven brothers (Woodhouse Fish Company) fared far better: They rode away from their trip to New Mexico with inspiration for West of Pecos, now open on Valencia.

Escape to the Southwest through the restaurant’s adobe entry (complete with street-side fireplaces) and find a spot filled with antiques pilfered from Santa Fe (ax-handled saloon doors, 100-plus-year-old Navajo blankets) and rustic decor (original 1907 wood floors, candlelit chandeliers, and a massive fabricated steer head).

Motor over for green chile mac and cheese, cornbread muffins with sweet chile butter, and corn tortillas made fresh in front of the chef’s counter. Whole fish fajitas, green chile cheeseburgers, and lamb albondigas play well with tequila, mezcal, and whiskey-based cocktails.

The Pecos Punch serves four in tin cups — also seen in prison.

You know, family style.
