Dessert is not an option for me – it’s a lifestyle. My obsession with sweet leads to many a great find – one of which warrants a share.
When I stumbled upon Moustache Baked Goods, just off the plaza in Healdsburg, I saw cupcakery heaven. My first thoughts? Blah. Cupcakes. Over. One bite and a lesson in humility later, I proclaimed my love for this place. These cupcakes will blow your mind. The secret is batter that is actually made from scratch and likely an unimaginable amount of butter that I need not be privy to.
While rows of intriguing flavors twinkle in the pastry case and entice passersby, a silent star sits quietly in a jar nearby. These are the caramels, sprinkled with sea salt from Bodega Bay. They are just the right amount of chewy and tender and salty sweet. Of course, there’s the butter again.
I tend to take not one but at least six for the road. Butter beat me there. — Schuyler, San Francisco editor
